Magic the Gathering
Introduced in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast, Magic: The Gathering created the trading card game genre (TCG), and is the most highly-prized game within the genre to this day. The game involves using different types of cards to summon creatures and warriors to battle your opponent’s cards.
There have been many different decks and thousands of cards released over the years, earning MTG over 14 awards, including the Mensa Select Award (1994), 4 Origins Awards for Collectible Card Game Expansion of the Year (1998, 2005, 2009, and 2012), and the Super As d’Or award for “Best New Game Concept and Genre Introduced in France”, as well as the honor of being inducted alongside Richard Garfield in the Origins Hall of Fame.
Along with the game, the quality of the card art is highly respected, and many artists aspire to create artwork for this series.
Magic: The Gathering continues to thrive to this day with an estimate of over twelve million players.
